AbideWell is a spiritual formation companion — not a therapist, counselor, or crisis service. It is designed to support your growth in Christian virtue alongside, not in place of, your faith community and professional care.
Nature of the Service
AbideWell is a spiritual companion tool, not a professional service. Specifically:
- AbideWell is not a therapist, counselor, or licensed professional of any kind.
- AbideWell is not a substitute for pastoral care, spiritual direction, or participation in a faith community.
- AbideWell does not provide medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice.
- The guidance offered is rooted in Christian theological tradition and is intended to encourage reflection, not to prescribe action.
You should always seek qualified professionals for mental health, medical, legal, or financial concerns.
How AI Is Used
AbideWell uses artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude) in limited, specific ways:
- Classification — AI categorizes your input to determine the appropriate type of response.
- Tone wrapping — AI shapes the delivery of responses to be warm and compassionate.
- Memory extraction — AI identifies key details from conversations to provide continuity.
AI does not generate theological content, spiritual guidance, or formation trajectories. All theological substance is derived from deterministic systems grounded in established Christian tradition. The AI assists with how responses are delivered, not what they say.
Crisis Disclaimer
AbideWell is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), 911 for emergencies, or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).
AbideWell includes crisis detection that will display emergency resources when certain topics arise. This is a safety measure, not a substitute for professional crisis intervention. AbideWell cannot call emergency services, dispatch help, or monitor your safety.
User Responsibilities
By using AbideWell, you agree to:
- Use the app honestly and in good faith for its intended purpose of spiritual reflection and formation.
- Not use the app to generate, store, or transmit harmful, abusive, illegal, or exploitative content.
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or interfere with the app's systems or infrastructure.
- Not misrepresent AbideWell's responses as professional advice from a licensed counselor, therapist, or clergy member.
- Be at least 13 years of age.
Your Data
AbideWell identifies you by a random, anonymous actor ID generated on your device. We do not require an account, email, or login.
Your data — including conversations, memories, and formation trajectories — is stored on our servers associated with this anonymous ID. You can delete all of your data at any time from within the app. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.

Intellectual Property
All content, design, and systems within AbideWell are the property of AbideWell or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the app or its content without written permission.
Your conversations and reflections remain yours. We claim no ownership over the content you share with the app.
No Warranty
AbideWell is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be available without interruption or error, that responses will be perfectly accurate or appropriate for your situation, or that the app will meet your specific spiritual needs or expectations.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, AbideWell and its operators, developers, and contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, spiritual distress, emotional harm, or reliance on app-generated content.
Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of AbideWell shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service (currently $0 during the pilot period).
Free Pilot Period
AbideWell is currently offered free of charge during its pilot period. We reserve the right to introduce pricing, modify features, or discontinue the service at any time with reasonable notice through the app.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service as AbideWell evolves. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app. Your continued use of AbideWell after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to AbideWell at our discretion if these terms are violated or if continued access poses a risk to the service or its users.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of AbideWell shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
